Why You Feel Your “Too Much”: Anxiety and Emotional Triggers
Anxiety tells us to “watch out” or “be careful”, it can help protect us; but when we are walking around anxious all the time it can also make us hypervigilant, always scanning our environments for perceived threats, not only physical threats but perhaps social or emotional ones too.
Some of the common thoughts we can have when perceiving ourselves as “too much” can include:
Worrying about disapproval from others
Fear of making mistakes
Being misunderstood
Emotional conflict
Feeling out of control
Even small signals — like a tone of voice, a delayed reply, or a facial expression — can feel threatening when anxiety is active. These small instances can be the triggers that lead us to judge ourselves harshly and spiral into more negative thoughts about ourselves, triggering emotions of shame, regret or embarrassment.
Therapy can help you recognize these emotional triggers, learn how to slow down and respond rather than react. If you’ve struggled with thinking that you’re too much counseling can help. You can reach out to me at 281-858-3325, Alejandra Machado, LPC, therapist in Houston, TX.
